I'm fundraising for a great cause!

Lifeline is Australia’s largest suicide prevention service, with a vision of an Australia free of suicide. The Lifeline network spans the nation with 41 centres in metropolitan, rural and remote areas.  There are over 10,000 volunteers and 1,000 employees working to ensure that no person in Australia has to face their darkest moments alone.

Lifeline aims to deliver digital services to Australian people in crisis, wherever they might be and in the mode in which they are most comfortable accessing support. Each year, Lifeline receives almost 1 million contacts from people in crisis.

By participating in the Hope Cycle, Tour of Australia on FulGaz, I'm raising much needed funds for Lifeline, can you help?

My Updates

Final few Stages

Saturday 10th Sep
Well-Ive finished!
Thankyou to all my friends who donated-much appreciated-Together we have raised over $1,000 for Lifeline-and it will make a difference-and help them to continue to provide the valuable service.

I would also like to thank Penny for signing me up....I have enjoyed it- Particularly when the ride ends!!
Tim-my son has also been jumping on the Fulgaz site and doing virtual rides from around the world-and really enjoying it as well-so we are likely to continue doing this type of riding.

Cheers and thanks to all my sponsors
Best regards
Karl

Stages 8-12

Thursday 8th Sep
Hi
They seem to have gone by in a blur- except for the Falls Creek climb which took about 2.5 +hours and was very difficult. Ive actually ridden this climb in reality a few times and my time on the virtual trainer was almost exactly what it took in real life! This was unfortunate -in that I had hoped it would be easier. I lost 3kg of weight during this climb-however as I drank around 2 litres of water- the net loss was only 1 KG- Ive only got a couple of dozen KG spare to lose so I was pleased.

The variety of these rides surely keeps your interest with the different videos. Ive been listening to a compilation of 80's rock music as I'm pedalling- and am trying to not sing-keeping the neighbours happy!

I'm really enjoying the Fulgaz videos and very likely to get a subscription so I can keep riding-it is very convenient.

Anyway-only a few legs to go-thanks to all who have donated and pushed my total far in excess of my modest expectations at the start.
Cheers

4th to 7th Stage

Wednesday 31st Aug
Hi
Well Phew! That was pretty hard- I'm really enjoying these rides-but have to say that hitting the finish line of each one-is a great feeling-and ive been knackered. The video of the ride we watch as we are going along is entertaining and instead of listening to ABC radio on my phone with buds in-I listened to Greatest hits of the 80's-sitting on the bike out on the verandah. The only problem-of course is that I can't help but sing along between puffing n panting. Of course I don't realise (with the buds in) that no-one else can hear the music and all that is heard is my wailing singing...I think the neighbours thought that there was stray cats howling. My wife poked her head out at one stage to indicate that it could be heard around the neighbourhood,

Anyway-I don't really care too much as after the ride I looked up my page and found out that one of my sponsors had donated a whopping $303!!!!- bring my total up to $950-Since I thought a modest $200 was a good target to originally aim for-I'm blown away by my friends generosity. I'm now hoping that I'll make at least $1,000 and that will be terrific.
Cheers for now

3rd Stage Near Margaret River

Tuesday 23rd Aug
Hi,
Just turned myself inside out on this stage! It appears to have worked as I am ranked 2nd on this stage ATM and apparently 2nd overall-not the Yellow Jersey just yet-and looking at the leaders times-not anytime soon!!
Anyway a good ride-bit of ups and downs-I even saw a vineyard off to the left at one point-but didn't call in. The ride is so much easier to keep your interest up with the video of the ride as you go along. I may have set too much of a target for myself with the times I have posted over the first 3 rides. I think I'll gracefully slide down the leaderboard when we come to the really hilly sections-cheers

2nd Stage-Bonnet to Bonnet

Monday 22nd Aug
A ride going south from Hobart that goes over a longish Hill -down to a bay-then turn around and back up and over again. Yhis is done whilst viewing a video of the ride-that is linked into your training bike speed/power etc. Thus if you go fast the video speeds up and when you come to a hill the power and cadence outputs govern how fast you go up the hill-and when it gets up around 10% slope its very hard to go over 5-7kph- so a 3km hill takes a long time! The videos are great-and you get pretty immersed in them-so much so that going downhill on this ride I nearly fell off my stationary bike as I found myself trying to lean into a corner!! Thank goodness no-one else appeared to be watching me-Haha
Cheers

First Stage complete!

Sunday 21st Aug
After much mucking around with trying to link my old bike trainer to the iPad- I enjoyed a trip circumnavigating Uluru virtually. My speed/power on the bike and the steepness of the ride dictates  how fast/slow I go. I got a bit inspired after completion of this first stage, and did a mountain climb in Italy (Virtually). This brought me back to earth as I was slugging up an 9-11% climb for 30 minutes at 7-8kph.
Anyway its given me an excuse to get back on the bike after not riding since the beginning of covid. Hopefully the beginning of my pathway back to cycling!!
